Why this site exists
Composting advice is everywhere. Measured composting advice is not. Compost Culture exists to close that gap: every product recommendation starts from published specs, test data, and long-term user reports — and every one of them carries a clear verdict on who it's for and who should skip it.
How we evaluate
The bar for a product on this site is the same every time:
- Published specs first. Dimensions, materials, capacities, and manufacturer-published tolerances — from the listing and the manufacturer, not from marketing copy.
- Independent data second. Where tests exist — thermal response, construction reviews, long-term owner reports from forums and review bases — we read them and cite what we use.
- Honest tradeoffs always. Every pick names the situation where it's the wrong choice. A recommendation without a caveat is an ad.
- No invented numbers. If a figure can't be sourced, it's flagged as a rule of thumb or left out. "Real data, not opinions" is the whole brand.
What this site is
Compost Culture is an independent, reader-supported reference project. There is no host, no channel, and no personality attached to it — just the editorial process above, applied consistently: published specs first, independent data second, honest tradeoffs always. The product picks and the science articles are built to the same standard, and a recommendation that stops meeting that standard gets corrected or removed, commission or no commission.
Affiliate disclosure
Compost Culture is reader-supported. When you buy through links on this site, we may earn an affiliate commission through three partners: the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program (most gear), Hungry Worms (live worms), and the GEME Bio brand partner program (the GEME countertop composters). This commission comes out of the partner's margin, never from your price — you pay exactly the same amount as if you'd gone to them directly.
Every product link on this site is an affiliate link, and each one is labeled as such. Commissions never determine which products we feature or how we rank them: rankings are based on the specs, published data, and user reports described above. If a product we recommended stopped meeting that bar, it would be removed or corrected here — even if it was paying us.
We are enrolled in the Amazon Associates program under a standard account. Amazon prices, availability, and product details are subject to change; the product pages linked from this site are authoritative at time of purchase.
Corrections
Found a spec that's wrong, a listing that's dead, or a better product for a category? Corrections make the site better. Every page links to the sources behind its numbers, so the fastest way to check a claim is the source itself — and if a source turns out to be wrong, or a pick has fallen below the bar, the page gets re-verified and corrected.
